Background
We’ve been searching around for a natural processed Kenyan for a very very long time. Those of you who were with us for a while, y’all remember the days of our last natural Kenyan, the Mufasa. Since then, we’ve been unable to find one that we’ve truly loved, UNTIL NOW!
Introducing Nemrys Estate, we’re stoked to have been able to bring in the beautiful coffees grown by this wholesome family owned initiative. The show was started in 2016 by Mr Paul Gichu. He was brought up in a coffee growing area and his parents paid for his education with the earnings they made from seling their coffees. The family’s land was subdivided amongst the family members so in order to start this initiative, Mr Gichu purchased more land to plant coffee trees. His passion for growing coffee was truly immense and he wanted his family to be involved in the production of specialty coffee.
The Nemrys Farms, providing work to the neighouring communities, is situated on the Aberdare Mountain Ranges. They specialise in the sole growth of the Batian varietal, known for its suitability for high altitudes and cold climates and being resistant to coffee-berry disease and bacterial blight. The Batian varietal is a complex and juicy one, with a sweet cup profile.
On to the sensory experience, we detect the immediate jammy sweetness of raspberry compote as well as the fresh fruit character of rose apple. This then leads on to a very pleasant acidity and vibrancy of red currant. Truly a beautiful coffee, we’re so excited and thankful to have her.
